leanne erod
All through the night
I wrestled the angel
To undo the curse
That's burdened me all of my life
background
+ MORE Leanne was born into the fae royalty. Her mother had been the Earth Queen -- the ruler of their court as well as the ruler of the fae. There's no concrete succession in terms of their world with royalty; the most powerful courts are typically the ones that rule. Rather it be a test of power, or through coups, they typically shift and change with each new ruler. There may have been a time where power rested within one court, but as they intermingled, gained knowledge from, and had part human/fae children, the need for conflict became closer to that of humans. So did their appearances, depending on the amount of human blood mixed in the line of the family. The fae began to lose what someone might call a fairy-like appearance -- pointed ears grew rounder, they grew taller, their skin colors changed to that of humans -- to mimic the human race. There are still, of course, those that still look entirely mystical or magical, but they evolved to look like humans either at will or gained mostly human features depending on how much human blood they have in them.

Unbeknownst to their world save for a few, Leanne's mother had woven a spell so that only one of her offspring could inherit the throne in the eventuality of her death. The limitations were that they had to be of her kin, and they needed to be at least 100 years old, which is right past when the fae judge that they've moved past adolescence and into what humans would call adulthood. Even at that age, they've usually far surpassed humans in the ways of knowledge and maturity. But when beings like them live to be thousands of years old, 100 years is just a drop in the bucket comparatively speaking. On her death, if there was no heir to take her throne, the capital city would block itself off into an impenetrable magic wall to protect it. To have the throne means to have power untold, outside of ruling the other courts of the fae and keeping the peace between themselves and the human world. That's why the queen wanted to keep it in her bloodline, to ensure that power would remain with her court through at least the next line of succession.

Lyrial, a disillusioned and power hungry fae from the Water Court, had gathered up traitors to the throne and attempted a coup on the queen. In some ways, she was successful. She killed the queen. But the spell activated, either killing or knocking the fae out of the capital city and forming that barrier so that no one could enter. As Leanne was in her 20s at the time, the royal psychic Maelin smuggled her and her half-brother Tyari (in his teens) out of the world and into the mortal world. There she was hidden from Lyrial, who assumed that the rest of the royal family had been killed, for a time. Maelin also went into hiding, but was able to get messages to the siblings over the years.

So, for a few decades Tyari and Leanne hid along the mortals. They became basically nomadic, not staying in one place for more than ten or so years at a time, in the case that someone that was sympathetic to Lyrial might catch their trail.

They lived like that until Tyari decided to go back and lead the Earth Court, which was still in disarray after the queen had been killed and something that they could actually inherit at their age. Leanne was in her 70s, and her little brother was in his 60s at the time. He begged for her to go back home with him.

She didn't, fearing Lyrial and facing her. Tyari decided to go defend his people, and Leanne was left alone in the mortal world for ten more years.

That is, until Maelin ended up on her doorstep with a baby. Lyrial had been conducting experiments with fae magic and the remnants of a lost court. Triplets were eventually produced, all of them half fae but more powerful than most. The remnant of the lost court, the amplifying fae, lived on in one of the children. Lyrial intended to raise whomever was born with that ability to to break the barrier on the capital and take what she believes is hers by right, as the conqueror of the last queen.

But before Lyrial could find out which one was which, all three children disappeared and Maelin ended up on Leanne's front porch with a baby boy. It took some convincing, but Leanne took the boy she named Cody in and raised him as his own, even as he started to grow into powers he didn't understand. She tried to help him to the best of his ability without telling him of his origins and her own, and currently he's 18 from her time while she is 105. She maintains being a traveling nurse, as she always had, even at the beginning of her exile. And while she's now of age to take her place as the rightful heir to her kingdom, she stays in the mortal realm and continues hiding while the fae courts war with each other in her homeland and Tyari prepares to become King instead when he comes of age. But even then, that'll be be another 5 years of war.

And that's where I'm pulling her from, before everything goes to hell.
personality
+ MORE Outwardly, Leanne portrays a confident and motherly figure. Between raising her little brother and then raising Cody, she's raised and taken care of people almost all of her current life. Since she's a nurse, it goes hand-in-hand with it, nurturing their physical needs as well as their emotional needs (in the case of her brother and Cody). While she appears to love it, and she does love it, she also does it as a way to atone for her running away from her role in her homeland. Her aggressive care of the people around her is a way to attempt to forget the blood that she feels is on her hands. She loves her adopted son Cody unconditionally as her own child, however.

Her confidence is built up from her knowledge. The languages she knows, the science she knows, the magic she knows, and the smattering of things she's learned while living all over the human world. She knows what she's doing in a general sense, even if she believes her life to be kind of a mess. Her knowledge is built from her fascination for other cultures and learning in general. She comes by the fae's curiosity of the human race honest, absorbing whatever anyone has to teach her like a sponge.

Underneath that upper layer, there's a lot of self doubt. She never really got the fairy equivalent of a "childhood", being thrown into the mortal world and taking care of her brother at such a young age. She doesn't really know how to relax or have fun, and she's constantly working to keep herself busy as well as try to wash away her guilt. Even if she didn't know what it was like, she still tried her best to provide for Cody and give him the childhood that she never had. It's part of her being a workaholic to provide for him, and she dislikes receiving help from others.

Fear is also something that's a part of her for almost one hundred years. Every day she wakes up afraid and paranoid of her relative peace being broken, of someone coming around the corner and taking the rest of what's important to her away. As a result, she's kind of paranoid and anxious when it comes to Cody and Tyari, though with the latter is a more constant fear since there's no easy way to connect to each other between worlds.

However, with people she doesn't know well, she's typically a no-nonsense kind of person. She has very little patience with adults, though most of them are still children in her eyes. For those who should know better but don't act as if they do irks her to no end, and this is where her sarcasm and sharp tongue could come into play. But with children, she cuts a lot more slack. Regardless on whether it's with Cody or not, she likes children and mothers them even if they aren't her own.

If you get on her bad side, she strikes hard and fast. Her calm demeanor gives way to something dangerous as all the anger and fear she's felt all her life surfaces to defend herself or those she loves. Leanne gives no mercy to people who would be her enemies if they come after her. While she's scared of facing Lyrial and her people, she's still a fae and powerful and she knows it. At least, so far as petty instances go -- a small group of people doesn't cause her to bat an eye, while the armies and politics of her homeworld do.
abilities
+ MORE Leanne has a glamor on her at all times, which is pretty much reflexive at this point to pass as "normal". As her fae self, her skin changes to the gray-brown of some barks. The magic in her veins undertones her skin in ripples of red, dark green, and dark orange. The changes reflect in her eyes as well, shifting and changing with those colors there as well, with a much deeper brown as its base. Her ears turn slightly pointed and longer, and her hair stays much the same.

At times, when she's exhibiting a large amount of magic, she has wings. They're not a physical thing, as a bat or a bird, but manifestations of her power. Not all fae can fly, and most who can typically are much more fae than they are human. But flying and manifesting her wings (a bronze color, streaked with golds and silver) takes a lot of energy, so she doesn't use them often.

Leanne has the power over earth -- which is to say, rocks, trees, and the dirt itself. She's able to control them at will with her magic, shaping, molding and fighting with it as she needs. The earth also reacts to extreme emotion in the shape of tremors in the ground, which is why she's buried her true feelings so deep to avoid it causing a scene. Obvliously in expiation, she won't be able to agitate the ground based on her emotions quite so drastically.

She can also use the energy of plants to heal others. Depending on the injury, she may weaken the plants or kill them altogether to heal her patient. This is probably her best skill, and she has a vast knowledge of plants and things to use as medicines as well. Whole gardens have died for her to heal a major wound or heal a group, so using that much magic and taking so much from the life around her is one of her last resorts. She cannot, however, control herbaceous plants in any other way.

Her glamor is that of a woman around her 40s with brown eyes and long very dark curly hair. She stands at around 5'8", and her features are of Indian descent, as her father's bloodline was Indian. When she's working, her hair is usually tied up in a ponytail, braid, or bun, and she usually dresses simply. Jeans and a t-shirt is usually fine with her, with a sweater on top or something to that effect if it's chilly. As she works a lot of physical labor, she believes a more simple dress is better. She does have an affection for a "day to day" kind of makeup -- light coverage foundation, concealer, and a little bit of mascara and eyeliner -- but nothing too intricate.
